Verifying a UK referral code before you reach the order screen

Because a referral cannot be added after an order is placed, everything worth checking happens before you press confirm. The problem is that most of the reassuring signals people rely on prove nothing at all. Here is the short list that constitutes proof, and the longer list that does not.

The checks that prove something

1. The benefit line on the order summary, before payment. For a UK Model 3 or Model Y that is roughly 650 free Supercharging miles, shown as included. This is the only real proof, and it is available on exactly one screen.
2. The order confirmation repeating it. If the summary showed it and the confirmation does not, raise that immediately rather than in a month.
3. The domain in your address bar after the link redirects. A genuine referral link lands you on tesla.com. This is a safety check rather than a benefit check, and it takes two seconds.

The checks that prove nothing

• The link opened the Tesla store. Any link does that. Landing on tesla.com says nothing about whether your session carries a referral.
• The code "looks valid". Codes are opaque strings; there is no format you can eyeball, and a well-formed code can belong to an account that has hit its annual cap of ten successful referrals.
• A third-party page says it was verified today. Including this one. A page can report that a code came from a real account; it cannot see your order.
• Someone else used it last week. Eligibility is per order and per car. Their Model Y order says nothing about your Model X order, which cannot carry a referral at all since March 2026.

The eligibility check to do before any of that

Confirm the car you are configuring is in the programme. Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck in Premium AWD and Cyberbeast trims are eligible; Model S and Model X have been outside the programme since March 2026, and Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD is excluded. A flawless referral on an ineligible car produces nothing, and no warning appears anywhere in the flow.

The ten-second scam test

A referral costs the buyer nothing, ever. There is no signup, no third-party account, and no payment step. Cloned Tesla order pages bought through paid search ads have solicited non-refundable deposits, so the defence is procedural: read the domain after any redirect, refuse any payment that is not Tesla's own checkout, and if in doubt type tesla.com yourself and apply a code at checkout instead.

What a UK-specific check adds

One thing: make sure the page you took the code from is describing the UK. A page quoting 2,000 km or a flat £500 credit is describing another market or an older programme, and a page promising a government grant alongside the referral is describing a scheme that does not include Tesla. None of that changes whether the code works — but it tells you how much of the rest of the page to trust.

The sequence that removes most failure

Do the comparison shopping first, with no referral link involved. Gather your trade-in figure and any finance inputs. Then open the referral link last, in a clean tab, configure once, and read the order summary before paying. Most lost referrals are sequence errors rather than bad codes.

If you have already ordered without one

There is nothing to recover on that order, and being told so plainly is more useful than being given hope: a referral cannot be applied afterwards. What remains available is a future energy purchase, which is a separate transaction with its own referral opportunity, and a second vehicle later.
