What a UK Tesla referral is actually worth

Exactly what a Tesla referral gets you in the UK — the 650 free Supercharging miles, worked out in pounds, plus where the £500-off variant and the changing Model S/X status fit in.

650 free miles, worked out in pounds
Tesla does not publish a cash value for the miles, so we estimate it honestly from public figures. You can redo this with today's numbers:
- A Model 3 or Model Y returns roughly 3.5–4.0 miles per kWh in mixed UK driving.
- 650 miles ÷ (3.5–4.0 mi/kWh) ≈ 163–186 kWh of charging.
- UK Supercharging is typically around £0.45–£0.55 per kWh (varies by site and time — check the live rate).
- 163–186 kWh × £0.45–£0.55 ≈ £73–£102.
So the referral is worth roughly £70–£100 in real-world charging. That is an estimate, not a Tesla-stated figure — efficiency, tariff and Supercharger pricing all move it. Re-check the per-kWh rate on Tesla's UK Supercharging page before you rely on a number.
With a referral link vs without one
Strip away the miles-in-pounds maths and here is the plain difference a referral link makes to the same Model 3 or Model Y order:

Inventory cars: the £500-off variant (where it applies)
Some in-stock or ex-demo cars have historically carried a £500-off incentive instead of the miles. This is car-specific and comes and goes, so we don't claim it as a blanket benefit. If you are buying from existing stock, check the individual car's listing — the offer shows there, not on the referral itself.
Miles or £500: which is actually the better benefit?
The section above says the £500-off variant is car-specific and comes and goes, which is true and also ducks the question a buyer offered one will ask: if you get one rather than the other, which did you get the better of? They are not equivalent, because they are different kinds of thing.
- £500 off is cash. It reduces what you pay, it is worth £500 to everyone who qualifies, it needs no arithmetic and it cannot lapse unused.
- 650 free miles is avoided spending. It is worth whatever you would otherwise have paid to Supercharge those miles — the maths above puts that around £70–£100 — and it is worth nothing at all to a driver who charges at home and never spends it.
So on our own figures, the cash variant is comfortably the stronger of the two, and by a wide margin for a home charger. That is an awkward thing for a referral site to publish, because the £500 is the one benefit you cannot get by opening our link — it arrives with particular stock cars. We would rather say it than let you assume the miles are the better prize because they are the prize we can offer.
What it does not justify is chasing it. The variant is not available on request, and the gap between the two benefits is small against the price difference between two different cars. Pick the car on its merits; take whichever benefit that car carries.
If you are buying from stock, check the summary harder
One practical consequence of the benefit being car-specific: on an inventory purchase, the line in your order summary may not match the Model 3 / Model Y rows in the ledger above — and the order summary is the one that is right. It describes your order; the table describes the general case.
There is also a timing reason to look more carefully rather than less. A stock car can move from configuration to payment in minutes, where a custom build takes days — which compresses the window in which you would notice a benefit that never attached. The steps do not change (open the link first, then configure, then read the summary), but the third step is easier to skip when the whole process is quick.
And the part that is identical either way: whichever variant a car carries, it still has to be visible before you pay. Nothing on this page — or any page — can add it afterwards.
Model S & Model X — changing
S and X eligibility is in flux across the UK/EU during 2026. Rather than print a figure that may already be wrong, our safe statement is: only Model 3 and Model Y are confirmed to earn the UK referral benefit today; check tesla.com/en_gb for S/X before ordering.
Cybertruck isn't sold in the UK
Cybertruck is not road-legal or sold in the UK or EU, so there is no UK referral for it. Any UK page offering a "Cybertruck referral" is wrong.
How the value compares to other UK Tesla incentives
The referral stacks on top of the car itself — it doesn't replace finance offers or the low Benefit-in-Kind company-car tax that keeps EVs attractive for UK business drivers. Treat the 650 miles as a genuine but modest extra (roughly a tank-equivalent of free rapid charging), not a headline discount.
