There are two ways to use it. Copy link puts the whole URL on your clipboard — handy for sending to yourself or keeping for later. It copies the full link rather than the bare code on purpose: there is no field at Tesla checkout where a code on its own can be entered, so only the link attaches the referral. Open at Tesla takes you to tesla.com/en_gb with the referral already attached, which is the reliable route for online orders (that's the whole of Step 2). What actually happens on screen when you click it
This is the part that trips people up: clicking the link doesn't look like anything happened. There's no "referral applied" banner and no pop-up. Here's exactly what changes, so you're not left second-guessing it.

Referral link vs referral code — same thing, two forms
A referral code identifies the owner. A referral link is that code
wrapped in a ts.la/<code> URL; clicking it opens tesla.com with the code pre-applied.
Neither is a discount coupon — Tesla's checkout has no coupon box. This is a referral, and the UK benefit is
Supercharging miles, not a percentage off.
Why the code changes each visit
Unlike a directory that funnels every click to one owner, we rotate codes fairly across a shared pool. Each page load shows one real, working code picked at random, so link-outs are shared evenly. The code you see is the code you copy and the code your link opens — they always match.
How to tell a live code from a dead one
Every guide hands you a code. Almost none tell you that a code can stop working, which is the thing worth knowing before you build your order around one. A referral code is not a permanent voucher — it is a pointer to an owner's account, and it stops paying out when that account can no longer refer.
Three things end a code's usefulness, and none of them announce themselves:
- The owner has hit the annual ceiling. Referrals are capped at ten per owner per calendar year. An owner who reached the cap in October has a code that still looks perfectly normal.
- The owner no longer has an eligible Tesla account — the car was sold, or the account changed. The link can survive the circumstances that gave it value.
- The code was never real. Codes copied between listing sites go stale, get mistyped, or were invented to fill a page. A directory that has not been touched in a year is a directory of guesses.
This is not a hypothetical problem for a buyer, because of the asymmetry running through the whole process: a referral cannot be added once your order exists. A dead code discovered at the order summary costs you nothing but a rebuild. A dead code you never checked costs you the benefit outright.
The check that actually settles it
You cannot validate a code by looking at it, and no site — this one included — can prove a code is live on the strength of its own say-so. What you can do is test it in under a minute, before you have committed to anything:
- Open the link and confirm it lands on tesla.com rather than an error or a bare homepage redirect.
- Start a configuration and go as far as the order summary — the screen with the price breakdown, before any payment.
- Look for the referral benefit line. If it is there, the code is live, and you have your answer from Tesla rather than from a third party.
If the line is missing, the fix is a fresh code and a fresh start, not a support request.
