How UK Tesla owners earn credits by sharing their referral link

What you earn
Tesla account credits when a referred buyer takes delivery — usable on Supercharging, some software upgrades and the Tesla Shop. Not cash, and we don't quote a fixed £ figure Tesla doesn't publish.
The cap and expiry
Up to 10 referrals per calendar year. Supercharging credits generally expire around 12 months after they're granted, so use them.

The asymmetry nobody points out
Buyer and referrer do not get the same kind of thing in the UK, and that is worth understanding before you promise anyone anything. The buyer gets Supercharging miles — energy, attached to the car. The referrer gets account credits, which are a broader store of value usable across several Tesla things. Same programme, two different currencies.
Two practical consequences follow. First, don't describe your reward to a prospective buyer as "the same thing you're getting" — it isn't, and it invites the suspicion that you're taking something from their side. Second, your credits are more flexible than their miles, which makes how you spend them a decision worth five minutes of thought rather than none.
Where the value actually goes, best to worst
Credits are one balance, but what you convert them into changes how much of the value you keep.

The rule underneath the table: credits are worth most when they displace a purchase you'd have made in cash, and worth least when converted into something with a shorter shelf life than the credits themselves.
Set your own expectations honestly before you start sharing
The cap is 10 referrals a calendar year, and for almost every owner that ceiling is theoretical. What actually limits you is the funnel, and it's worth seeing plainly:
- Only delivered cars count. Credits are granted when the referred car is delivered, not when it's ordered — so a cancelled order earns you nothing, and a December order delivered in January lands your credit in the following year.
- Only correctly-attributed orders count. Someone who meant to use your link but configured first has not referred you, and neither of you will get an error message saying so.
- Only new orders count. Not used cars, not orders already placed.
Put together: of everyone who tells you they're "thinking about a Tesla", the fraction that turns into a credit for you is small. That's not a reason to skip it — the perk is free and real — but it is a reason to treat it as an occasional bonus rather than a scheme, and to say so when someone asks whether you're making money from this.
What to say when you share it
Three sentences cover everything a buyer needs, and getting them right is the difference between a referral that works and one that doesn't: it costs you nothing and doesn't change your price; I receive credits for it, which is separate from your benefit; and open the link before you configure, because it can't be added afterwards. Only the third one is actually useful to them — the first two exist to remove the suspicion that stops people clicking.
