Tesla Model 3 referral code UK: 7 myths, and the facts that replace them

Older pages about the Tesla Model 3 UK referral have a habit of recycling claims that were never quite right, or that stopped being true a while ago. Here are seven of the myths we see most, each with the fact that actually applies to a UK Model 3 order today.

Myth 1: "You get a flat £500 credit on every Tesla model"

Fact: a new Model 3 referral is roughly 650 miles of free Supercharging, not a flat cash credit. £500-off has appeared on specific inventory or ex-demo cars, but it isn't the standard new-Model-3 referral benefit — treating it as universal is the single biggest accuracy gap on older UK pages.

Myth 2: "You get 3 months of free Full Self-Driving"

Myth 3: "The referral code is a discount code you type in at checkout"

Fact: Tesla's UK checkout has no coupon box. A referral link pre-applies the code before you configure; Tesla then recognises it automatically and shows it in your order summary. There's nothing to type in, and nowhere to type it if you tried.

Myth 4: "You can add a code after you've placed your order if you forgot"

Fact: no. Once an order is placed, the referral can't be attached retrospectively — online or in a Tesla store. If you configured and paid without a link, that order won't earn the benefit; the only fix is on your next order.

Myth 5: "A referral makes the Model 3 itself cheaper"

Fact: it doesn't touch the purchase price at all. The Supercharging miles are added to your Tesla account after delivery — a genuine extra, but not money off the car. If you're comparing total cost, look to grants and finance offers for price reductions, not the referral.

Myth 6: "Cybertruck qualifies for a UK referral"

Fact: Cybertruck isn't sold or road-legal in the UK or EU at all, so there's no UK referral for it, full stop. Any page offering one is either describing a different market or simply wrong.

Myth 7: "Referral credits and miles never expire"

Fact: Supercharging credits earned through referrals generally expire around 12 months after they're granted. Use them within that window rather than assuming they sit on your account indefinitely.

A bonus half-myth: "the Electric Car Grant tops up your referral"

Worth flagging even though it's less a referral myth than a grant one: the government's Electric Car Grant (up to £3,750, live since July 2025) doesn't currently reach any Model 3 trim — all three list above the scheme's £37,000 price cap. It sits alongside the referral, not stacked into it, and today it simply doesn't apply to this car.

Why these myths persist

Most trace back to two things: US referral pages being read as if they describe the UK programme, and older UK pages that were accurate when written but never updated as the scheme changed. The fix for both is the same — check the claim against your own live order summary or tesla.com/en_gb, and treat a "last verified" date on any page (including this one) as a promise worth checking rather than taking on trust.

The one fact worth remembering above all the others

Whatever else is true or false above, the sequence that actually protects your benefit is simple: open a referral link before you configure, and confirm the benefit line in your order summary before you pay. Get that right and none of these seven myths can cost you the referral.
