NewsThe 24 February 2026 terms, read from a UK order

Tesla's Refer and Earn terms carry a revision date of 24 February 2026. Most coverage reads them from a North American order. Read from a UK order, a different set of clauses does the work — and one widely repeated clause turns out not to apply here at all.

The clause that reads differently: the reward itself

North American coverage describes the buyer benefit as a three-month supervised-driving trial. A UK order produces roughly 650 free Supercharging miles instead. Same programme, different reward, and the mainland European figure is different again at about 2,000 km since April 2026. Any summary that states "the benefit" without naming a market is describing one market by accident.

The clause that bites hardest, everywhere

No retroactive application. The referral attaches when the order is placed, through the link, and cannot be added afterwards — not by the buyer, not by support, not by the code's owner. Everything practical about using a referral follows from that one sentence, which is why this site repeats it on almost every page.

The clauses about expiry

Two clocks, and the UK buyer runs the shorter one. Tesla Credits expire 12 months from the Grant Date; Supercharging distance expires in 6. The Grant Date is when the benefit is posted to an account, not when the order was placed — which is why a long pending period costs nothing. A 30-day warning email precedes expiry, and an expired balance cannot be reissued.

The clauses that are about the referrer, not you

The cap — the first 10 successful referrals per calendar year — and the non-cash, non-transferable nature of Tesla Credits. The amount each referral pays is the one figure this desk will not print: public reporting says $250 in some places and $500 in others, both cannot be current, and averaging two contested numbers produces a third that describes nobody. The referrer's own app holds the authoritative figure.

Eligibility, as it now stands

Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck in Premium AWD and Cyberbeast trims. Model S and Model X have been outside the programme since March 2026, and Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD is excluded — proof that Tesla will draw the line inside a family, and therefore that no new variant is automatically covered.

How to use the revision date as a filter

Four fast tests on any referral page: does it list Model S or X as earning a benefit (predates March 2026); does it promise a cash discount rather than the market's actual reward (older programme); does it quote a UK figure in kilometres (wrong market); and does it carry a date attached to the claim rather than a copyright year in the footer. A page failing those is not necessarily wrong — it simply gives you no way to check, in a year when the programme moved at least five times.

The read

Terms revisions are the least glamorous referral news and the most useful. They give a reader a boundary date, and a boundary date is what converts "this page sounds confident" into "this page predates the current rulebook". For the pre-order checks that follow from all of this, see the verification checklist.
