Search "Tesla referral code UK 2026" and you'll still find pages promising a flat £500 credit for every model. That framing is out of date. Here is what a UK referral actually gets a new buyer today, and how to sanity-check its value yourself.
The benefit is Supercharging miles, not a flat discount
For a new Model 3 or Model Y ordered through a referral link, the UK benefit is roughly 650 miles of free Supercharging, added to your Tesla account after delivery. It doesn't reduce the car's price and it isn't a coupon.
650 free miles, worked out in pounds
Tesla does not publish a cash value for the miles, so we estimate it honestly from public figures. You can redo this with today's numbers:
- A Model 3 or Model Y returns roughly 3.5–4.0 miles per kWh in mixed UK driving.
- 650 miles ÷ (3.5–4.0 mi/kWh) ≈ 163–186 kWh of charging.
- UK Supercharging is typically around £0.45–£0.55 per kWh (varies by site and time — check the live rate).
- 163–186 kWh × £0.45–£0.55 ≈ £73–£102.
So the referral is worth roughly £70–£100 in real-world charging. That is an estimate, not a Tesla-stated figure — efficiency, tariff and Supercharger pricing all move it. Re-check the per-kWh rate on Tesla's UK Supercharging page before you rely on a number.
Why the "£500 for all models" claim is wrong
£500-off has appeared on specific inventory cars, and historically on some other models, but it is not the blanket new-car referral benefit in the UK today. Treating it as universal is the single biggest accuracy gap on the older UK pages.
And it is not free FSD
"Three months free Full Self-Driving" is the US and Canada benefit. FSD isn't road-legal in the UK yet, so the UK referral is Supercharging miles. If a page offers UK free FSD, it's copied US text.
The other half: what the person who shared the code gets
Almost every "what you get" page answers only for the buyer, which leaves the programme looking like a one-sided giveaway and makes the mechanics harder to predict. The two sides are different in kind, not just in size, and knowing that explains several rules at once.
- You receive charging, they receive credit. Your benefit is Supercharging miles attached to the car. Theirs is credit inside Tesla's ecosystem — spendable on Tesla products and services, not paid as cash.
- Yours arrives once, theirs is capped. There is no limit on being referred; there is an annual limit on how many referrals one owner can be rewarded for. A referrer who has reached it earns nothing more that year.
- Yours attaches at order, theirs lands around delivery. Which is why a referral shows as pending while you wait, and why a cancelled order pays them nothing at all.
None of this is a pot you are splitting. Your benefit does not shrink because the referrer is rewarded, and it does not grow if they are not — a referrer at their annual cap costs you nothing, and your miles apply exactly as normal. That is the single most common worry about using a stranger's code, and it is unfounded.
Two practical consequences
Choosing whose code to use is a courtesy, not a calculation. Every valid code delivers you the identical benefit — no code "gives more", and any page suggesting otherwise is selling something. So if someone you know owns a Tesla, using their code costs you nothing and gives them something; if not, a code from a pool works exactly the same.
Thanking a referrer is not thanking them for a discount. They have not given you money and they are not being paid cash. If a friend shares their link, what they receive is Tesla credit they can spend on Tesla things, within an annual limit — worth knowing before assuming either that they profited handsomely or that they did you a favour at their own expense. Neither is true.
