The three trims, in brief
Rear-Wheel Drive is the entry point: a single motor, the lowest price of the three, and the shortest range. Long Range adds a second motor and meaningfully more range for a step up in price. Performance trades a little of that range back for the quickest acceleration and sportier hardware. Exact range and pricing move with Tesla's UK configurator, so check current figures there rather than relying on any third-party number, including ours.

2026 context: the incentives Tesla buyers don't get

The government's Electric Car Grant (from July 2025, up to £3,750 off EVs under £37,000) doesn't currently reach any Model 3 trim — all three list above the price cap. A separate home-charger installation grant, worth up to around £500 for some renters and flat-dwellers, is unrelated to the car you buy and depends on your property instead. None of this changes your referral, but it's the question most buyers actually start with. Rear-Wheel Drive tends to suit drivers doing mostly shorter, local trips who want the lowest entry price. Long Range suits anyone doing regular motorway runs or without easy home charging, where the extra range buys flexibility. Performance suits buyers who want the quickest car in the range and are willing to trade a little range for it. Treat this as a starting point, not a rule — configure all three and compare the live numbers before deciding.

The trim decision works the same whichever channel you use. Online, open the referral link first, then configure and compare trims freely before paying. In a Tesla store, the sequence is different: give the sales advisor the referral code before the order is placed, regardless of which trim you're buying — it can't be added retroactively there either.
A mistake worth avoiding
Some buyers assume a higher-spec trim must come with a better referral deal, since it costs more. It doesn't — the reward is fixed per model, not scaled to your spend. Don't let that assumption push you towards a trim you wouldn't otherwise have chosen.
